History

Wordcraft of Oregon was founded in 1988 as an outgrowth of Ice River Magazine, a journal of the fantastic in literature. Wordcraft's Speculative Writers Series published twenty-five books by visionary authors whose work attracted much attention and critical acclaim. With its relaunch in 2006, Wordcraft of Oregon, LLC, broadened its range of literary interest, no longer limited to speculative work, but still looking for the rare gem that has helped define this literary small press.

Wordcraft of Oregon, LLC, was relaunchedin 2006 after a three-year hiatus believing a broad range of literature could be offered affordably and competitively. Our various editions, from first trade paperbacks, in print editions of 500-1500 copies, to smaller locally-produced in-house saddle-stitched and perfectbound editions, allowed us to test an audience with new voices while providing more established writers with an alternative to the commercial houses. In 2008, the press shifted to Print on Demand technology for printing of books and in 2012 has narrowed its publishing interests to Oregon and Northwest poets, with occasional prose books by invitation only.
