Uber User Posts: 370 Location: Beaverton, Oregon, USA | Book I read: The Dark Defiles - Richard K. Morgan 4 stars - LGBT, 3, Sequel The Lies of Locke Lamora - Scott Lynch 4 stars - 2nd Best Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson - 2 stars - EotW I only have 5 books to read to finish all of this years challenges. This month was a tough one for reading. The Dark Defiles was long, and Snow Crash took me 12 days to read. Life happened: my job got intense and my partner of 10 years decided to call it quits. The latter happened about 100 pages into Snow Crash, and I had a hard time concentrating on the book, as one would expect. The humor which I appreciated in the beginning started to feel force, I lost all sense of the timeline, and the everything about the book felt self-conscious and arrogant. I forced myself to slog through the last 60 pages so I could mark 3 books for October instead of just 2. Since I own this book, I think I'll probably have to read it again in a few years when my perspective is better. I want to say (as I'm feeling disconnected at home) that I appreciate everyone who participates in the forums, and these threads. You folks have been a lifeline of connectedness for me, making me feel part of something larger than myself. Thanks for hanging out here, everyone! Completed Challenges: Just Have to Read More Grand Master LGBT Masterworks WoGF 2nd Best Fantasia Elizabeth Noun End of the World Creature Feature 2014 Challenges left: 12 Awards: completed 9/12 The Number of the Counting Shall Be3: completed 6/9 The Book of Ones: completed 10/12 Read the Sequel: completed 9/12 2014-2015 Challenge: Read it Again, Sam: 0/6 completed

Uber User Posts: 794 | @spoltz I'm sorry to hear about your personal troubles as a much married man I can sympathize with how devastating the breakup of a long term relationship can be. Uber User Posts: 770 Location: SC, USA | Steve, It really is a miracle of humanity that the simple facts of liking the same books and being invested in a common goal, whether it is a reading challenge or adding authors and books to WWE, can make us feel so connected to people thousands of miles away. Hold on to that feeling of connectedness. I am sorry for your troubles and wish you all the best. Rhonda
