The Women Authors list is a subset of all authors in the WWEnd database, so it only shows authors for which we have works.

Janis Ian does have some short fiction in anthologies which are in the database (for example, New Voices in Science Fiction), but anthologies are listed by editor. We do not currently have any full-length works for which she is listed as author or editor.

Sylvia Louise Engdahl's and Carol Ryrie Brink's works are Childrens' fiction. While we do have some of that in the database, we have thus far concentrated on Adult fiction and, more recently, Young Adult fiction, in terms of what gets entered into the database, which is why we don't have anything for them right now.

Works by Lisa "L.J." Cohen and Abby-Lynn "A.L." Knorr are all self-published, which, apart from special exceptions, is not currently included in the database. See the FAQ for a description of which works are currently being included in the database.

Diana Waggoner's The Hills of Faraway: A Guide to Fantasy is an annotated list of fantasy books rather than a work of fiction, and it is more than 40 years old. While in recent years we have entered a fair number nonfiction works, they are generally award finalists and lengthy critical studies. This particular work would have been a likely candidate for the database back when it was published -- had Worlds Without End existed back then -- but it is really outdated at this point, and probably of limited usefulness to WWEnd readers.

Worlds Without End is not intended to be a comprehensive reference source, such as the ISFDB. It's intended to be a genre-specific reader's resource for tracking books read and to-be-read, and identifying works in which a reader might be interested, based on ratings and reviews by other readers as well as the synopsis. (For example, there are certain WWEnd members whose tastes I have found correspond quite well to my own, so I know that if they rate or review a book highly, it's quite likely that I will enjoy it, too. And I find out about a lot of the new books being released because WWEnders have requested them.)

Books are not added to WWEnd based on any sort of listing. Because there are limits to how much can be humanly added and how quickly, works are added based on what WWEnd readers are reading or wanting to read. Thus far, the membership here has been primarily interested in Adult and Young Adult fiction, and primarily in newer, rather than older, works. It's likely that a lot of the older works, especially childrens' works, will never get entered into WWEnd.

And if we included Graphic Novels and Comics (~17,000 per year), and self-published SFF works (~10,000 per year), the job would be insurmountable. So we have to have some sorts of limitations.

There are other resources on the internet intended to provide the sort of comprehensive biblographic listings you describe, such as the Internet Speculative Fiction Database and the Grand Comics Database. We're happy to let them be the best at that sort of thing, while we concentrate on being a much smaller, but far more deep, sharing library resource among people who are big readers of SFF.

These 3 short fiction pieces appeared in a magazine for which the publisher did only 5 issues in 1940-41. They are not award finalists, in any "Best of" anthologies, or available as stand-alone works, so they do not fall under the list of works we enter in the database. The database already had a copy of C. S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters, but the Uber User decided to add another version because you asked for an omnibus that included the short story, "Screwtape Proposes a Toast" too. We've discussed this situation and decided it is better if the short story has its own entry to replace the omnibus entry.
