Random quote: When it comes to the point where you occasionally look forward to being in prison on the basis that you might be able to spend a day reading a book, the realization dawns that perhaps the situation has become a little more stressful than you would like. - Julian Assange - (Added by: gallyangel) |

Member Posts: 25 | SF fans - I read a book ~10 years ago of SF short stories by one author. The story I remember most vividly was about a man who grows up as a barbarian on a world that is populated by giant savage insects. I believe that the world was a terraforming project gone wrong (or abandoned) and that the hero eventually made contact with civilization and becomes the ruler of his world. The stories were good, but dated. I had the definite feeling that the author was writing from a mid-1900's viewpoint. I have searched for the author, but can't figure out who he is. Anybody recognize my description? regards, NateT

Regular Posts: 96 Location: Cheshire, England | Dredging the mind a bit, but I seem to remember that Jandar of Callisto (Lin Carter's book) was captured by an insect type race of people. Not sure they were short stories though but they certainly fit the older-style of writing.

New User Posts: 1 | I haven't read it yet, but the back cover blurb of Planets of Adventure by Murray Leinster seems to match your description.

New User Posts: 1 | Think it's "The Forgotten Planet" by Murray Leinster, a novel stitched together from 3 stories. Terraforming, giant insects, humans descended down many generations; all the elements seem to be there, and it's from 1954. Good luck!

Admin Posts: 288 Location: Irving, TX | Planets of Adventure can be found here for $6.83 on Kindle: http://j.mp/12ZCLam The Forgotten planet can be found here for $1, also on Kindle: http://j.mp/17jEdtg Dead tree versions of both are also available on those pages. I hope one (or both, as they seem to contain the same story) of these is the right one.
