I've just started a new project called the #SpecWomenChat Podcast! In this monthly show, a panel of both indie and traditionally-published women speculative fiction authors will discuss issues about all things fantasy, science fiction, and issues of interest to women in the field.? Some of us you'll have heard of, others will be new discoveries for many, but all of us are SFF authors.

Our first panel topic was "Women in Speculative Fiction," where we discussed what inspired the hashtag, and what issues specifically face women in the SFF field.? Our first panelists were:

F&SF writer Cat Rambo lives and writes in the Pacific Northwest. Her short story collection, EYES LIKE SKY AND COAL AND MOONLIGHT, was a 2010 Endeavor Award finalist. A third collection, NEAR + FAR, appeared in 2012 from Hydra House. She has been shortlisted for an Endeavour Award, Locus Award, World Fantasy Award and most recently the Nebula Award. Her debut novel, BEASTS OF TABAT, appeared in 2015 from WordFire Press, the same year she co-edited AD ASTRA: THE SFWA 50TH ANNIVERSARY COOKBOOK. In 2016, forthcoming books include HEARTS OF TABAT (novel) and NEITHER HERE NOR THERE (collection). She is the current President of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA).? If you would like to sign up to receive stories from her each month, check out her Patreon campaign at?http://www.patreon.com/catrambo Books: http://www.kittywumpus.net/blog/fiction/

Nancy Jane Moore is the author of the science fiction novel, The Weave; the novellas Changeling and Ardent Forest; and the collections Conscientious Inconsistencies, Flashes of Illumination, and Walking Contradiction and Other Futures. Her short fiction has appeared in a number of anthologies and in magazines ranging from Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet to the National Law Journal.? A native Texan, Moore lives for many years in Washington, DC, and now makes her home with her sweetheart in Oakland, CA.? ?She has studied martial arts since 1979 and holds a fourth degree black belt in Aikido. Katie Phillips (who writes under pen name Karis Waters) is a developmental fiction editor and writing coach specializing in empowering women writing spec fiction to tell their stories with confidence and clarity! She's also the managing editor of indie publisher Crosshair Press. Katie has visited over 30 countries, lived in England for almost three years, and is slightly obsessed with strawberries and salted caramel dark chocolate. She lives with her dance instructor husband in the heartland of America and aspires to have a husky.? She is the creator of the #SpecWomenChat hashtag. Books: http://crosshairpress.com/karis-waters/

Hey Diane, congrats on the new podcast!  I listened to your first episode and as far as the content goes it was great.  I know this was your first go at it but my oh my the sound was quite a problem.  I have to say that I never would have stayed past the first minute if it wasn't a friend's podcast.  The stalling, word drops, static, background noise etc. were absolutely maddening!  The coffee shop noise behind Katie was just awful but your other guests had set up quiet spaces for themselves and came though very well.  I think Kat was in a closet sound booth which I'm sure she gets a lot of use out of being such a big name in genre fiction.  The worst problems were with your connection it seems and I had a hard time following you in particular.  You were obviously bounding with enthusiasm and it was a shame we could not get the full you in real time.

I'm glad I stuck it out though because your guests were charming and interesting and I enjoyed the conversation.  They were quite engaged with your talking points and seemed to be enjoying themselves too.  Your show really has a lot of potential especially if you can get that caliber of guests each time and can correct the technical issues.

We need to get your show added to the podcast page so shoot me a short description, link, image etc. when you can.

Hey Cap! Thanks for the critique Yeah, I was having some issues. First run so I didn't know to insist that Katie mute her mic while talking (I did tell her, but you'd be amazed at how terrible podcast interviewees are at following instructions.)

I'm upping the game, by the way. I got a better computer to do the trick now, and now I've been invited to do this project for the *official* SFWA YouTube channel! Today I'm doing a panel on space opera with Ann Leckie, Khaalidah Muhammed-Ali, and indie authors Bonnie Milani and Chandra Fry.Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NArTBjt-wzQ.

The first episode has been moved to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0f7Z2S2vl8.

Just watched this and I really enjoyed it! (Despite the technical difficulties and my loud neighbors). I am looking forward to checking out some new authors.
