Random quote: "Swords, Lances, arrows, machine guns, and even high explosives have had far less power over the fates of nations than the typhus louse, the plague flea, and the yellow-fever mosquito. Civilizations have retreated from the plasmodium of malaria, and armies have crumbled into rabbles under the onslaught of cholera spirilla, or of dysentery and typhoid bacilli. Huge areas have been devastated by the trypanosome that travels on the wings of the tsetse fly, and generations have been harassed by the syphilis of a courtier. War and conquest and that herd existence which is an accompaniment of what we call civilization have merely set the stage for these more powerful agents of human tragedy." ― Hans Zinsser, Rats, Lice and History

Hello Worlds Without Enders

Any thoughts on the new Riddick movie? and the series in general?

Thought new one was ok, but kind of a not so good throwback to the original. Also, we are reminded throughout the film that Katee Sackhoff is a lesbian yet is also obviously attracted to Riddick who declares that he will have sex with her. And its hinted that they do have sex. Is Riddick superpower turning gay women straight or something!? Also remember the slow-motion scene of Diesel running with that li'l chihuahua? Thinking about it, it really was an over-long drawn out mess.
Loved the gorgeous scenery though

I was disappointed because I was really looking to seeing how Riddick would handle being a reluctant leader of an army of questionably moral soldiers, but the way it was handled was kind of a cop out to me. Oh well, it was still a good action movie.

Yes!  That is exactly what I wanted to see.  When the trailers came out it killed my interest completely.  I don't want to see a rehash of Pitch Black.  At least not at theater prices.  I'll see it on DVD/Uverse/Netflix some day, I'm sure.  Glad to hear it's at least a good action movie.
