Nothing special. Would benefit from more world-building. That is the major weakness of the book and results in it being, for the most part, ordinary and unmemorable. The reader is thrust into the situation of the Streaker being stranded on an ocean world and it feels like you have missed something. Too much dialogue and not enough narration or education of the reader on Uplift, what is happening on Earth, etc. Also, the scattering of several protagonists on different areas of the planet soon becomes difficult to keep up with. I found myself confused as to who was where and what they were trying to do most of the time.

Tom Orley, Gillian Baskin, Crediecki, Charles Dart.

Despite these drawbacks, overall the book deserves a positive review. There are some very cool concepts about the patron-client relationship and the dolphins and chimpanzees as clients to the human "wolflings" is a clever storyline. The last 100 pages or so really pick up and read fast. I look forward to reading the next book for more explanations and description of uplift universe. It still needs more fleshing out on the part of Brin.
