There is no doubt that as an author Mr Anthony delivers a refreshing writing style, and a well paced, vivid and exciting adventure.
What is uncomfortble is the way women are portrayed in this book. Some will see it as horrbily mysogenistic and others would argue it recognises the sexual power women actually have over men through the use of a similar allegory to the Mermaid. But it doesnt stop there there are also relationships with mothers and worse... Whichever way you cut it, this makes the main character impossible to like - so what's the point in reading his story?
This really spoilt the book for me as the times spent squirming with its outdated set of sexual politics out weighed the page turning excitement.
This book will divide many.
