A Man is accidentally left for dead on Mars and must struggle to survive until help arrives. Yes, it's Robinson Crusoe on Mars, Alle the elements of a movie and full of rousing cheer moments that any audience will love. (And according to IMDB Ridley Scott will direct with Matt Damon as the title character).
That said the book has a few problems. Around page 200 (of a 370 page book) the mishaps that created ever more obstacles to his survival started to feel formulaic and the math-physics problems started to get a little tiresome (perhaps an appendix might have helped). That said the core of the book is a winner and I expect any movie will jettison the hard-SF and trim the story down to a sleek package. Maybe one of those cases where the movie is better than the book. 2.5/5
