This is my favourite Jame Herbert book and possibly my favourite horror novel.

The story begins with a woman hiring a private investigator to search for her dead child. The child supposedly died while being born but the woman does not believe this is true.

I found this premise startling.

From there our main character the private investigator begins to research and in the course discovers a nursing home that harbours sinister Others. I cannot reveal what they are as I will spoil the enjoyment for other readers.

He also meets a very horrible man and a woman who helps him. These along with the lead character are great to read about.

What is unearthed later in the book is very chilling and was downright scary and unbelievable to read.

This is a brilliant horror novel that builds over time. Well worth reading.
