The Drawing of the Three is the second installment of Stephen King’s seven book epic, The Dark Tower. It begins immediately following the events of The Gunslinger and it tells the story of how Roland, the Gunslinger, recruits or “draws” allies in his inexorable quest to the Dark Tower. The book itself isn’t quite as good as the first installment, in terms of King’s economy of language – or even in terms of his ability to be creatively descriptive. But what it lacks in these areas, it makes up for in a fast-paced, action-packed narrative that will lead many readers to prefer it over the more abstract first book. Is it better than The Gunslinger? No. But it is certainly an engaging and epic tale, worthy of The Dark Tower saga.
