If you are an urban fantasy fan,but a little bored with the standard kickbutt female in leather pants,a sword and a tattoo,this book is a refreshing change.Niko,the elder brotheris stoic,a warrior fanatically dedicated to the protection of his younger teenage brother Cal,who is only half human,because his drugs and drink addicted mother accepted a lot of money to have the child of an Aufe,an elf,but not like those romanticised beautiful creatures of legend.The Aufe are terrifyingly ugly,superfast,cruel and vicious to the highest degree.Cal will be their way of opening a portal which will lead to the destruction of mankind.Once captured at age 12 he seemingly disappeared for 2 days,and then escaped,but is now 2 years older,with no memory of the hideous torture he had undergone.The brothers went on the run,but now four years later the Aufe plans for Cal have reached crunch time.They want Cal back.I wont tell much more about the plot,but this is a riproing read,with the solid strong relationship between the brothers as the bedrock of the tale.Cal is the narrator,and his story is funny,charming,and witty .The last part of the book is also first person narrative,but here the narrator is murderous,vindictive,cruel,and callous,but also funny!This is a most enjoyable read,excellent to be the author's debut nove.I certainly look forward to more books about the Leandros brothers.Highly recommended
