This is an unusual exposition on the possiblity of a pan-African unity, led by African-Americans. The political and social concepts on which the dream of unity is built are quite naîve, and the faint hope that Tuareg from North Africa would unite happily with Ibo from Nigeria and Zulu from South Africa is not enough to make this story realistic or compelling.

That said, the main characters are all quite well drawn and earnest, with overrall consistent and positive intentions. They face opposition from both NGOs and national military/espionage forces, which would seem to preemptively doom their efforts, but the author does his best to create an uprising that can hold off both external forces.

It's a pleasant and fast moving read, and if you put the central theme of African unity to the side as best you can, it's a good story overall. Not great, not worth going out of your way for, but a different perspective on the genre and characters chosen.
