I've begun! The Star Wars universe is an oyster waiting to be cracked by me. This starts it all and I went in wanting more of a comprehensive explanation of how the Jedi (still known as Je'dii when the novel takes place) were formed. I found out after reading this I was supposed to read the graphic novels before, so I won't hold it against the book too much. This was a solid, acceptable character and plot. It never pushed into the amazing level of writing, but it was a good introduction.

Things I enjoyed about this novel:

1: There was no overglorification of the Je'daii, the battle between light and dark was portrayed in some quite intriguing ways at times. As well as the flesh alchemy... Lanoree could so be overcome by the darkside in the future.

2: Different planets and the cultures formed around them.

Things that needed work:

1: Engagement, I sometimes caught myself thinking "Why does this matter?" Why was a stereotypical adventure novel written when it could have been something more relevant to the modern Star Wars universe?

2: At this point, I am over-saturated with books that switch from the past to the present... it's so overdone.
