Turned out to be far better than what I was expecting. I find that some recent Nebula-nominated books by female authors don't have the edge that I look for in a good SF&F book. Not that they're bad, just that they tend to miss my sweet spot. However, this had a solid, sharp edge to it, and I really enjoyed the way the story unfolded in the second half. Very well-paced as well. Highly recommended!
