Other novelists had already tackled the subject of an asteroid strike on the Earth by the time Clarke got around to writing this novel in 1993. I'm assuming that is the reason for the lack of award nominations for this novel as it is very well written. Clarke shines as always with a straight forward hard science story that is really designed to educate the reader about the dangers of an asteroid strike to humanity. There is not a great deal of action in the novel, but Clarke's descriptions and speculation about the 22nd century make the novel more than worthwhile. A quick and easy read and not to be overlooked among the master's plethora of excellent novels.
